Getting to Know Your Student

This worksheet is great when it comes to breaking the ice with your knew student.  Just because we're tutors, it doesn't mean we shouldn't get to know our students!  Not only will we benefit by knowing what topics we can incorporate into their lesson plans, but the students will feel more comfortable because they'll feel like we know more about them than the fact that they would like extra help in school.

Adjectives: What Are They?!

This is a great worksheet to get students familiar with adjectives.  I like using this worksheet because it allows for the students to make up the answers on their own, rather than using a word bank (not to say word banks are bad!).  This way, the tutor will be able to tell whether their student is actually grasping the concept or not versus making guesses based on provided answers. Specifically in this exercise, students will use adjectives to describe a car.

5 W's Chart

This is a great chart to get students warmed up in a tutoring session and it can also be used to organize ideas for an essay or simply for discussion between the student and tutor.  The best part about the 5 W's chart is that it can be used for any age and for any subject.
